The Road of a Thousand Turns

This was not a very interesting day. We mostly went from A to B, from B to C, from C to D, back a bit because we were lost, and finally to K. We took a bus for a while, then a rental car, which means I had to drive.

Dear reader, I’m sure you’re beginning to know me a little, and to perceive that I am usually sweet, patient, and rarely grumpy, if I can say so myself. Well, I was neither sweet, nor patient on this occasion! I don’t drive very often, and the White Owl, who doesn’t drive at all, is always under the impression that being over 30km/h is deadly.

This is not a nice mix.

“You know, Honorable Mother of mine, said I, there is a small chance that I horribly curse and growl, because it’s been such a long time since I have driven a car, and it stresses me a lot. I hope you will forgive me for any angry outburst that may happen.
– I know, sighed the WO. I will be silent, discreet, and show the patience of an angel…”

I did curse horribly. I did growl. She was mostly silent and patient.

“This road is turning AGAIN!
-SLOW DOWN!!!
-WHY ARE ALL THOSE ROADS TURNING?
-We are going to die now…
-See, this one even turns the other way, then back!
-That’s because you’re going too fast.
-Mama, if I go any slower, I’ll go backwards!
-That’s because you don’t take your turns very well…
-I’M TAKING THEM AS THEY COME!
-That’s because you’re going too fast.”

It was a long day…

Canadians drivers (at least, those we met that day in British Columbia) are amazingly patient and nice. They don’t say anything and wait placidly for you to go on in one direction or another while you do something blatantly stupid, panic, do something else even dumber and grossly illegal, panic again, scream obscenities that make the White Owl protest loudly, leave the car in the middle of the street, run around for five minutes, go back in the car and drive away.

This is the day where I should have been honked dozens of time, deservedly so, but was only honked once.

The road was spectacular, even though it was turning a lot. Mountains, lakes, huge old trees… British Columbia is indeed beautiful.

Yes, it’s their province motto… Show off!! (but so true)

I couldn’t take pictures on the road, but here is the view from one of our cabin windows the next 3 days:
